This highly engaging, action-packed presentation tackles the key issues facing campuses today, such as the unique challenges colleges face in creating a safe campus environment that appreciates, respects and encompasses all demographics. During this multi-media event students and faculty will have the opportunity to share their voices, experiences and talents. This SPEAK OUT is designed to bring  the UAF community together to experience the power we have to BE THE CHANGE.  Come and experience first hand, the power of SPEAKING OUT! This presentation is guaranteed to ignite civility, engagement, and social justice initiatives at UAF and in the community.

Our B-word dialogues event scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14th has been POSTPONED to a not yet determined date due to the weather conditions in Fairbanks and the surrounding areas.

Stay tuned for the reschedule date, time & place

Students from Communication, Psychology, Sociology, Women's & Gender Studies, and additional disciplines will bring what they are learning in their classes to this discussion about whether words like bitch and pussy have been or can be claimed, reclaimed and/or re-purposed; whether such words are appropriate to use in any context; whether there are parameters around when, by, and with whom such words can be used. 
Join the dialogue as students bring these questions and more to the Multi-Level Lounge in the Wood Center.

NAMI of Fairbanks Scholarships - Application Deadline December 2

The purpose of NAMI of Fairbanks Scholarships is to provide scholarships to part-time or full-time undergraduate or graduate students in any field of study at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. First preference shall be given to those who have been treated for a serious mental illness. The scholarship will also be open to other students in any field of study who are interested in education, advocacy and removal of stigma regarding mental illness, particularly those majoring in the disciplines of counseling, psychology, social work or similar fields and who intend to serve the mentally ill.  Students from rural campuses are also eligible to apply. There are two $500 scholarships for spring 2014.
The deadline for application is December 2, 2013

Soroptimist International of Fairbanks Scholarship

The deadline to apply for the Soroptimist International of Fairbanks Scholarship is December 1st. Eligible applicants are women who: 
  • provide the primary financial support for their dependents (including children, spouse, siblings and/or parents)
  • demonstrate financial need
  • have been accepted to or enrolled in a vocational/skills training program of an undergraduate degree program
  • are motivated to achieve their educational and career goals
  • reside in one of Soroptimist International of the Americas’ member countries or territories
  • have not previously been the recipient of a Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Award; and are not a Soroptimist member, employee of Soroptimist or immediate family of either.
